Plug-In IBM AFP/IPDS emulation
for HP LaserJet
Printers
Overview
The I-O 3235 IPDS DIMM is a HP
LaserJet compatible, Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) that provides
support for Advanced Function Printing (AFP) using IBM's Intelligent
Printer Data Stream (IPDS) over Ethernet networks, from IBM AS/400 -
iSeries or Mainframe - zSeries Hosts.
It enables HP LaserJet Printers to print AFP/IPDS print jobs over an
Ethernet LAN. This winning combination provides high level AFP/IPDS
printing from an IBM AS/400 and Mainframe system.
If you need AFP/IPDS on a other laser printers or multi-function
printer (MFP) devices from companies like Canon, IBM, Konica,
Kyocera-Mita, Lexmark, Ricoh, Sharp, Xerox,
etc., please click on the following links:
Advantages
The significant advantages of the I-O 3235 are:
Offloading the data
conversion from the host: EBCDIC to ASCII conversion is done by
the I-O 3235 at
the printer. No host resources are used to convert data. Printing speeds
are increased.
Configuration via front
panel or Web page: The DIMM is inserted in one of the printer’s
available DIMM slots. Set up and configuration is easily accomplished
through the printer’s front panel or HP WebJetAdmin on newer models.
Support of all AFP/IPDS
towers: All AFP/IPDS functions such as bar code, graphics, fonts,
and overlay are fully supported.
Supports Advanced Function
Printing (AFP) using IPDS protocol
Host controlled printing
and page range printing
Edge to edge printing
Customized input tray
I-O has combined its extensive experience in host connectivity with HP's I/O Filter technology to develop
a solution that allows multiple models of HP printers to print AFP/IPDS host print jobs. The I-O 3235 DIMM
is available in various models to support a wide range of HP LaserJet
Printers.o models. The HP LaserJet printers supported by
each model is as follows:

Plus a
wide range of additional features that boost productivity and performance.
| Features |
Benefits |
| AFP/IPDS printing on an HP printer |
Eliminates the expense of a dedicated host AFP/IPDS printer. |
| AFP/IPDS printing over a LAN |
Both AFP/IPDS host printing and standard LAN printing can be accomplished in an Ethernet environment. |
| Offloading
of Data Conversion |
Increased speed is a result of converting EBCDIC data at the printer rather than at the host or PC. |
| Duplex |
Printing can be done on both sides of a page. The full functionality of a duplex printer can be utilized. |
| Page Offset Function |
Provides flexibility in page positioning with no need to modify applications. |
| Supports over 100 AFP/IPDS Fonts |
There are more fonts to choose from than other AFP/IPDS interfaces. |
