True "Device"
iSeries AS/400
& Mainframe LAN Printing
Overview
The I-O 5450e is
a three session, three port, multi-protocol print server. It provides
full-function IBM AS/400-iSeries or Mainframe-zSeries printing over a
10/100 Mbps Ethernet network, as well as printing from Windows, Novell,
OS/2, or Unix platforms.
The 5430e is a single
parallel port version with all the benefits the 5450e can provide but for
a single parallel printer.

Features
 |
Connects up to 3 printers
(2 parallel, 1 serial)
 |
10 / 100 Mbps Ethernet LAN,
auto sensing
 |
Multiple Host support
(AS/400 iSeries, Mainframe zSeries, Windows, Unix)
 |
Multiple LAN protocols (SNA,
TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBIOS)
 |
Host printing via Telnet
(TN5250e and TN3270E), SNA (APPC) or AnyNet
 |
Simple, one step set-up
(auto configuration) when using TN5250e or TN3270e
 |
Host controlled printing,
including error reporting, page range printing etc.

Full Print Queue Control
You will be able to have the same full print control over a TCP/IP printer just as if it
was a direct attached twinax or coax printer. Some of the print queue features you will get
back are:
 | Page Range Printing - Permits users to print select page
ranges from large documents and reports. |
 | Printer Error Reporting - Prevents loss of
IBM Host print
data by providing same level of print status reporting as a direct system attached twinax
or coax printer. |
 | True IBM iSeries AS/400 and S/390 zSeries Printer Emulations - Permits
full-function IBM Host printing on the attached LAN printer. 3812-01 (SCS) laser, 4214
matrix and 5224/25/56 matrix printer emulations. |
 | No Host Print Transform - No need to waste valuable
processor cycles on EBCIDIC to ASCII translation. The 5450e /
5430e handles that all
with it's own embedded RISC processor. |
 | Simultaneous Multi-Host Printing - Maximizes printer
utilization by supporting concurrent printing not only from the IBM
Hosts but from Windows, Novell, OS/2, UNIX, etc. |

Reliable, Full-Function AS/400 & Mainframe LAN Printing
In addition to operating as Ethernet
LAN print servers, the I-O 5430e & 5450e support AS/400 - iSeries and IBM
Mainframe printing over TCP/IP, SNA (APPC), and AnyNet (SNA
encapsulated in TCP/IP). Using any one of these protocols, the 5430e
or the 5450e allow the LAN attached printer to offer the same reliable,
full-function IBM host printing support as a direct system-attached
twinax or coax 5250/3270 printer. These protocols also offer users one step set-up
(auto-configuration) as well.
In addition, the 5450e is
also able to run three simultaneous IBM host printer sessions.
They both can also speed up IBM Host printing. Since the 5430e/5450e
performs all the EBCDIC to ASCII conversion. ASCII printers appear to the
IBM host as true twinax- or coax-attached IBM printers, not simply remote
print queues. This allows for a full control over print outputs (page
selection, copies, restart, etc.) and a better control over error
reporting (out of paper, offline, etc.). This also eliminates the need for
host based conversion software (Host Print Transform), freeing system
resources for more critical tasks. It also reduces considerably network
traffic and improves print speed.
