Overview

ES/3XTwin and the new ES/PCI from Decision Data/NLynx Systems are hardware/software packages that provides powerful, flexible local 5250 terminal and printer emulation for any Windows® environment. Using ES/3XTwin, you can link PCs via Twinax to an IBM System/36®, Advanced Series/36®, or AS/400®, to emulate a variety of 5250 terminal types and IBM midrange printers.

Two solutions to handle all Windows operating systems

ES/3XTwin for PCs with ISA expansion slots provides terminal and printer emulation for Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups™, Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME and Windows XP®—all in a single solution. NLynx has bundled Emerald Series 32-bit emulation software for Windows 95 and Windows NT and 16-bit for Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups 3.X to provide emulation for any Windows environment. The ES/3XTwin installer program detects the Windows operating system and automatically installs the appropriate software.

Advanced Features

• Multilanguage support. Localized product for English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
• Flexible connectivity options. PCs can be connected locally by a standard twinax cable, or through an IBM 5X94 workstation controller.
• Built-in migration path. Because ES/3XTwin contains both 32- and 16-bit emulation, users can start out in a Windows 3.X environment and upgrade to a newer Windows operating system without having to purchase additional software.
• No IRQs needed, no memory segment. The ES/3XTwin solution requires no IRQs or memory segment, freeing up your computer’s valuable resources for more productive uses.
• Client Axcess/400® support. The 3XTwin adapter is fully compatible with CA/400 features, including shared folders and ODBC (Open Database Connectivity). It also supports Personal Communications/400® and all versions of PC Support.
• Multiple session support. A single PC can run seven sessions concurrently. S/3X data entry, batch processing, print jobs, and PC resident software can be run simultaneously.
• Printer options. Choose from a variety of popular printers supported by the PC. Up to three printers are supported at any one time, each running independently while another host or PC application is active.
• Hotspots identify host menu items. Host menu items and function keys can be assigned colors. Employ this aesthetic and intuitive approach to locate them quickly and easily.
• Keystroke memory and playback (macros). Predefine keystrokes for automated sign-on, repetitive data entry, or unattended operation. Store as many as 2,048 keystrokes in up to 24 keyboard macros.
• ETU® file transfer support. ETU, an industry standard from NLynx Systems, allows direct file transfer between the PC and System/36, Advanced Series/36, or AS/400.

• Drop-down menu support using mouse button.
• Keyboard mapping allows easy reconfiguration to support existing keyboards.
• Advanced printer support includes autorotate and autosize functions, either direct or network-attached.
• With Application Program Interface (WINHLLAPI), unlimited options are available for simplifying PC operations, including use of internally developed or third-party software.
• Custom tool bar allows users to create their own easy-to-use buttons for frequently used items, including macros.
• DOS support available for ES/3XTwin adapter only.  DOS not supported on EX/PCI adapter.
